Requirements to Rent a Luxury Car in Dubai (Tourists & Residents)
Renting a luxury car in Dubai is refreshingly straightforward, but the exact documents depend on whether you are a tourist or a UAE resident. Getting your paperwork right before pickup means you drive away without delays. Here is the complete checklist.
Minimum age
You must generally be at least 21 to rent in the UAE, but luxury and high-performance cars usually carry a higher minimum — often 25 — because of their value and insurance terms. The more exotic the car, the more likely a higher age requirement applies.
Driving licence — tourists
Visitors from many countries can drive on their home licence, but an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside it is strongly recommended and often required — especially if your national licence is not in English or Arabic. Bring both to avoid any issue at pickup.
Driving licence — residents
UAE residents must rent using a valid UAE driving licence; a foreign or international licence is not accepted once you hold residency. You will also present your Emirates ID alongside it.
Passport, visa and credit card
Tourists present a passport and a valid visa or entry stamp. Everyone needs a credit card in the driver's name to cover the refundable security deposit — debit cards and cash are usually not accepted for the hold. Make sure the card has enough available limit for the deposit on the car you want.
